The Feldenkrais Method®, Awareness Through Movement & Functional Integration

Feldenkrais is a non-invasive, awareness-based and body-focused learning process based on the principles of physics, biomechanics and neuroscience. It is an innovative method of movement education that teaches you to move with greater ease and efficiency so you can enjoy life more. Using gentle movement explorations, while examining your muscle tone, skeletal alignment and breathing, you bring attention to the parts of the self that are out of awareness. By exploring your habits of moving and your rigidity, you can expand your options and find more comfortable, efficient and graceful ways to live your life to the fullest.  Regular students of the Method enjoy better posture, breathing and coordination as well as greater mental and physical flexibility. They typically report enhanced performance, creativity, and pleasure in activities as diverse as walking, exercising. skiing, dancing, running, climbing, golfing, gardening, grand-parenting, driving, and housekeeping.  Moshe Feldenkrais understood that we are always thinking, feeling, sensing and moving. To change any one of those things can bring about change in the whole person. Movement is the most immediate and concrete of those four aspects. It’s also one of the most effective stress reduction techniques around.  Feldenkrais® lessons are fascinating and fun!

Awareness Through Movement lessons are a series of simple movements done lying on the floor which lead you through a wide range of fascinating but gentle movement explorations that will bring you back to your center, improve your freedom of movement, relieve stress, promote relaxation, and restore an easy, balanced posture. Lessons are done fully clothed and require no more special equipment than a sense of curiosity and fun. Come join us as we lie on the floor and rediscover what movement can be. You will feel and function better in ways you may have forgotten were even possible.  What better way to spend an hour?

Feldenkrais Functional Integration is a non-invasive hands-on technique designed to teach the client how to eliminate excess effort and to move more freely and easily, and with less pain. The client is fully clothed and usually lying on a low, padded table. The practitioner uses gentle manipulations to help the client release unnecessary muscular tension and to better organize their movements. Feldenkrais has proven effective in helping people improve their movement when it has been impaired by illness or injury or if they simply want to move with more comfort and grace.

"The aim is a person who is organized to move with minimum effort and
maximum efficiency, not through muscular strength, but through increased
consciousness of how movement works." - Moshe Feldenkrais
